Textbox/Textarea and Tab key

Hello, does multiline textbox (or textarea) support entering tab characters rather than switching focus? I know it can be done in JavaScript, but I don't have the energy to make a cross browser solution, and I'm hoping it is built-in or somebody else has solved this problem.
