If you are referring to ZK Calendar then just listen to onEventCreate. As documented here it is triggered when an empty cell is clicked.

You don't have to create a new event. Instead you can (create/)open a menupopup dynamically as needed, the corresponding event will contain the date information of the cell clicked.
