A listbox is a listbox. We'd better not to confuse the end users and the developers to make it too multi-functional.

yeah a component with grid behavior is definitely useful :) why isn't it a good idea to be able to adapt this to listbox? can we have a property that indicates if user wants to do row select or cell select?

The behavior you request is more like a grid behavior. Maybe we need a spread sheet component that would do things like that. However, I don't think that is a good idea to change the behavior of the listbox.
