Material design is a design system created by Google. The benefit to apply it is to empower your application with a well-designed practice. If you don't have your own design, following material design is a good approach. Adopting a well-known design can make your application easier to be accepted by users.

But it also makes your application looks like Google-related applications, which might mislead users that are related to Google or Android.
