need to create a table allowing selectable cells

I have a menu where I allow users to configure the attributes and data of a graph. One of the things I am trying to do is letting user select data from a table, not only a row of a column but also a subset of a row, a range of 2x3 cells any where in the table (to select the cells they should be able to use some keyboard functionality identical to the MS Excel or drag their mouse of the cells while pressing the click button).

I have done some experiments highlighting cells etc.. but haven't been able to put together something working. Apart from the obvious (and expensive) ZK spreadsheets (which has a lot more functionality that I don't need), is there any example or solution for this, that I can take a look or does anybody have a simple enough solution to post it here?
