How to remove nullpointer exception from browser?

Hi,

Here's is my scenario.. i have written an application which stores all my excel information into the database if i press a submit button, and retrieves if i press retrieve button, based on a value in the cell for example in row-3 column-4 i will keep a value lets say "abc" if this value matches then only my whole excel need to be saved otherwise some information need to displayed like "abc doesn't exists any more.." if i keep original value it is getting saved, if i keep value other than abc i'm getting "null pointer exception" in the browser then i'm getting the message box information.

my question is how to remove the null pointer exception that is displayed in the browser?

please reply me asap...
