Sheet protection does prevent drag fill & copy-paste

The drag fill & copy-paste feature is causing cells to be overwritten even though the sheet is protected. Although the cells are protected when I double-click a cell or attempt to type inside a cell, it doesn't stop the drag and fill from overwriting protected cells.

I would've that that protecting the sheet would disable the drag fill feature. Is there a way to disable this feature or is this a known bug?
