Zk 5..0.8 client error: Failed to mount: item is not defined

hi i have a tree i iterate over the treeItems and check and later i try to select that item using this code

if(selectedItem!=null)tree.setSelectedItem(selectedItem);

but it throws..

client error: Failed to mount: item is not defined

how can i solve it i am a newbie on ZK. thanks a lot
