Liferay integration / Permissions

I want to develop portlets using zk and was wondering whether I can access the Liferay permission system from within zk.
I'm not sure if I'm able to access PermissionChecker from within the zscript Blocks easily because the portal and the zskript run in different environments (beanshell and 'normal jvm environment'). Does anybody has experiences in this or (even better) example code?

I would really appreciate any ideas (or even an explanation why it could be impossible)
