Google's gmaps documentation mentions a signature parameter ([https]://developers.google.com/maps/documentation/directions/get-api-key#client-id):

[https]://maps.googleapis.com/maps/api/directions/json
  ?origin=Toronto
  &destination=Montreal
  &client=gme-YOUR_CLIENT_ID
  &signature=YOUR_URL_SIGNATURE

Looking at 3.0.5 client and channel are supported, but I cannot find a method for setting signature. How is it set?

yes since version 3.0.5 you can add arbitrary URL parameters in case the existing java API's don't support a specific or newly added parameter:

gmaps.setGmapsApiConfigParam("signature", "YOUR_URL_SIGNATURE");
